Sacred Chalice Patens — Handcrafted in Europe
Simple in form, profound in purpose — the chalice paten is one of the most essential vessels of the Catholic Mass. Our patens are handcrafted by skilled artisans in Europe, shaped with precision and finished with the reverence befitting a vessel that holds the Body of Christ during the celebration of the Eucharist.
Precisely Made. Reverently Purposed.
Every paten in our collection is crafted to exacting standards — smooth, gilded surfaces that honor the sacred Host they carry, carefully proportioned to complement your chalice, and finished by hand to ensure a quality worthy of the altar. These are not decorative pieces. They are instruments of the liturgy, made to serve at the most sacred moment of the Mass.

🔹 Liturgical Use
The chalice paten is a small, flat, disc-shaped plate — typically made of gold, silver, or gold-plated metal — used during the celebration of the Catholic Mass. Though simple in appearance, its liturgical role is precise, deliberate, and deeply reverent.
- During the Offertory The paten holds the large Host (the bread to be consecrated) as it is presented at the altar during the Offertory, before the Liturgy of the Eucharist begins.
- During the Consecration The paten remains on the corporal (the white linen cloth on the altar) beneath or beside the chalice as the priest consecrates the Host, transforming it into the Body of Christ.
- During the Breaking of the Bread (Fraction Rite) The priest breaks the consecrated Host over the paten to ensure that no fragments of the Body of Christ are lost. Even the smallest particles are treated with the utmost care and reverence.
- During the Distribution of Communion In some parishes, a Communion paten (held by a server or acolyte) is held beneath the chin of each communicant receiving on the tongue to catch any fragments that may fall, preventing the Host from touching the floor.
- During the Purification After Communion, the priest uses the paten to gather any remaining fragments from the corporal, carefully collecting them into the chalice before purifying the sacred vessels.
The Perfect Complement to Your Chalice
The paten and chalice are inseparable partners at the altar. Whether you are replacing a worn paten, completing a chalice set, or outfitting a newly established parish, our European-made patens bring the same standard of sacred craftsmanship to every Mass they serve.
Each paten arrives carefully packaged, ready to take its rightful place at the altar.
