The amice is the rectangular linen worn around the neck and shoulders before the alb is put on, protecting the outer vestments and offering a clean, finished line at the collar. Unlike the linen pieces in this collection, the amice is made from soft, breathable cotton, chosen specifically for comfort against the skin during long liturgical celebrations.

It is fitted with two sturdy ties that cross and secure at the front, holding the amice in place throughout Mass without slipping. Finished simply, without embroidery, it is built for daily reliability and easy laundering, and is available individually for clergy who need a replacement, or as part of the complete five-piece set.

Each piece serves a distinct role in the celebration of Mass. The amice is tied around the neck and shoulders before the alb is put on, giving a clean finish at the collar. The corporal is spread on the altar to hold the chalice and host, traditionally catching any fragments of the consecrated host. The chalice pall covers the chalice to protect its contents during the liturgy. The purificator is used to wipe the chalice and the priest's fingers during purification, and the manuterge dries his hands during the lavabo, the ritual hand-washing before the Eucharistic Prayer. Together, the five pieces support the practical and ceremonial needs of the Mass from vesting through to the conclusion of the Eucharistic rite.
